Meet Bob Steemson, a Ford Technician celebrating his 40th anniversary at Wareham Ford in Massachusetts. Steemson has felt a pull towards the automotive industry for as long as he can remember and has managed to create a successful career.
"I was always interested in the automotive industry and enjoyed the challenges," Steemson said.
Steemson started as an A-Line Technician at Warehouse Ford and never stopped. He is currently a Shop Foreman and nightmare job specialist.
"A nightmare job specialist is the person that takes on the hardest, most complex repairs in the shop," Craig Barrett, dealership owner, explained. "Whether it's a job that requires knowledge of the latest technology in the vehicles, or a job that comes in from another shop that they were not able to repair."
Steemson added that the challenges keep him motivated. With today's technology, the challenges are becoming harder, but he enjoys tackling them as they come. It's also the people that he works with who keep him going.
"I always enjoy working with new people," Steemson said.
Working at a dealership for 40 years means seeing it all, but his favorite vehicle to service is a Model T because of its ease of repairs. His dream is to get his hands on a V6 GT40. However, Steemson has enjoyed challenging projects over the years.
"In the past, when the dealership took in boats on trade, I liked to work on them because it was different from the everyday stuff," Steemson explained. I did engine repairs on Jet Drive Boats and worked on Classic Car trades, and one that sticks out was a 1938 Lasalle."
Dealership Owner Craig Barrett describes Steemson as reliable and a team player. Every morning, he opens the shop and ensures all equipment is ready for the day. Even when tackling the most complex projects, Barrett noted Steemson dedicates his time to making sure everything is repaired correctly.
"Bob has the patience and passion to pass along his 40-plus years of industry knowledge to new techs to the industry," Craig said proudly. "He is always willing to help another technician out on a repair they could be stuck on. Wareham Ford and Ford Motor Company are very fortunate to have Bob Steemson."
Steemson feels equally as fortunate to have Wareham Ford.
“I've always liked working here and with all the people; it is like a family atmosphere to me.
I spend more time at the dealership than I do at home!”
